Safeguarding

The Woodland Federation schools recognise our moral and statutory responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of all pupils. We endeavour to provide a safe and welcoming environment where children are respected and valued. We are alert to the signs of abuse and neglect and follow our procedures to ensure that children receive effective support, protection and justice. Child protection forms part of the schools’ safeguarding responsibilities. The Child Protection and Safeguarding policy underpins and guides The Woodland Federation schools’ procedures and protocols to ensure its pupils and staff are safe.

Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH)

The MASH is the central resource for the whole of Devon receiving all safeguarding and child protection enquiries.

It is staffed with professionals from a range of agencies including police, health, mental health, education, social care, housing, probation, early years, youth offending, fire, and domestic abuse services.

These professionals share information to ensure early identification of potential significant harm, and trigger interventions to prevent further harm or to safeguard children’s welfare.

If you are worried about the safety of a child in Devon and want to speak to someone, or if you are a child worried about your own safety, please contact our Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) on 0345 155 1071 or email mashsecure@devon.gov.uk and give as much information as you can.

Early Help

Early Help is the extra support your family can get if you need it. It may be that you want to prevent a problem, or change things for your family before the problem becomes more serious. It is not a specific service or team, it is an approach that brings together people from a range of services and teams who will work with whole families to help improve the situation for everyone.

Prevent

Terrorism can occur anywhere in the world with atrocities carried out in support of various ideologies.  There is no single definition of terrorism but it commonly refers to criminal acts intended to provoke a state of terror in the general public.

Prevent is part of the Government’s counter-terrorism strategy that aims to stop people becoming terrorists.  It is a multi-agency approach to safeguard people at risk of radicalisation.

Since July 2015 all schools (as well as other organisations) have had a duty to safeguard children from radicalisation and extremism. This means that we have a responsibility to protect children from extremist and violent views, in the same way we work to protect them from drugs or gang violence. Importantly, we can provide a safe place for pupils to discuss these issues so that they better understand how to protect themselves.

Online safety

Online safety is a vital part of children’s education and wider life in today’s modern world and, at both Winkleigh and Kings Nympton Primary, we aim to embed this in the children’s learning at school.

We provide advice, support and information to both our children and their parents with the aim of improving their understanding of online safety issues so that they can learn to use digital media and the internet safely and securely both at home and at school.

There is much support available to keep your child safe online. Below are some useful links to help parents and carers:
